On the Hill

by Deborah Dybowski

They bloomed on the hill,
in back of the house.
Two large clusters of
yellow trumpet-like flowers,
stood boldly in the rain,
with their heads slightly bowed, as
if bashful.

They had no reason to be shy,
for they brought joy to me.
The magic of spring came
with their presence.

Soon, tiny green leaves will
sprout forth on the tree's branches.
Life will show itself,
reborn, alive and ready to renew
the gray gloom of winter.
Spring will come with its abundance.
