An Early Winter

by Boogienights

Abecdarian poem Contest Winner

Above, clouds gather in the darkening sky,

Below, the sea churns as fierce winds fly.

Cold is the snow that blankets us all,

Dare we embrace it, risk taking a fall?

Everything's still and quiet tonight,

Falling white snowflakes paint the world bright.

Gone are the birds, instinct lets them know,

Heading out towards warmer winds that blow.

Inside by the fire, spending time through the storm,

Just being close, quite happy and warm.

Killing time, popping corn, being together,

Laughing and singing, in spite of the weather.

Making the most of this time, we will do,

Normally too busy for small things, it's true.

Over too soon, the storm now abates,

Peacefully silent, a winter world waits.

Quickly, the children dress for the snow,

Running uphill with sleds, to zoom down below.

Shoveling snow and ice from the walk,

The neighbors will stop for a moment to talk.

Under a sky that's clearing up fast,

Violent winds, soon die down at last.

Winter wonderland we will remember,

X factor worthy since it came in September!

Yard work forgotten, no gardens to tend,

Zealously embracing winter again.
