Our Tristan is...

Miracle Man

by Janet Foor

Around the world young Tristan flew

to play a sport that wasn't new.

The night droned on until the dawn.

His team arrived in old Taiwan.

We all believed this handsome lad

was our bright, gifted Galahad.

He played this soccer game with flair.

Just try to stop him if you dare.

Though he was poised for this great game,

his world might never be the same.

A stroke would shut his body down

as teammates fought to bring him 'round.

His trainers realized his fate

and rushed to help their friend and mate.

The crew stepped up and found a ride.

An ambulance that turned the tide.

A surgeon's skillful hands were trained.

A young man's life was what was gained.

His momma waited by the phone --

assured her son was not alone.

First chance, she too was on a flight

that took her to relieve her fright.

Though this dark night was not her choice,

her joy rang out to hear his voice.

A perfect storm was in their sight.

It roared and howled throughout the night.

But Mom and fam'ly shared a prayer

creating bonds with love to spare.

A miracle took place that dawn

around the world in old Taiwan.

A mother feared what might have been

but God was there, His love transcends.

‘Twas answered prayer that saved the day

when love came down and showed the way.

A second chance at life began

for Tristan is a MIRACLE MAN.

A stroke turned his World Cup into a nightmare. A medical 'miracle' saved his life.
My grandson, Tristan, was born with 50% hearing loss in both ears. Still he attended school and played sports. Soccer being his favorite. After high school, he attended Gallaudet University for the Deaf and hearing impaired in Washington DC where he learned about the US Deaf National Soccer team. He tried out and made the team two years ago and has competed with them across the country and in Brazil in 2022. In 2023, his team was en route to Malaysia for the World Cup tournament when the stroke happened at a layover in Taiwan. Tristan was in the right place with the right people at the right time for his Miracle. God stepped in and saved his life with emergency brain surgery in the middle of the night on the other side of the world. Tristan is hearing impaired, in a foreign land and suffered a stroke. Scary stuff for a young man of 23.

All this has been an inspiration to our family and a reaffirmed belief that "God is Good" and He is still in control. Tristan is back home and had heart surgery in January to fill the hole in his heart that caused the clot that went to his brain that resulted in the stroke.
He is an amazing young man and has been cleared by his doctors to resume a full life, including competitive soccer. To God be the glory.....

An article was written in Yahoo Illustration by Henry Bushnell about this event. All teams traveling, especially internationally, should have trainers with the team. These trainers were credited in the article for saving Tristan's life.
I was unable to add the link to that article.
