A loop poem for the contest

Okay to Leave

by June Sargent

We take for granted sun will rise and shine ~

shine brightly over every hearth and home,

home filled with tender love and gentle care.

Care, if withheld, compels a soul to roam.

Roam, searching for a shelter where we hide ~

hide desperately from those who should protect.

Protect us from all harm, thus building trust.

Trust, broken, shatters dreams and self-respect.

Respect yourself and firmly take a stand.

Stand up and shout "Abuse is not okay!"

Okay to leave the past behind and seek.

Seek help and start embracing each new day.
