Triumph In Battle

by R. Lynn Collett

As
the
earthy
odor hints
of  a  coming
storm,  a  single,
fat soldier leads the
attack.  Willowy puffs of
dust give away the arrival of
additional troops hitting the thirsty
earth like mini explosions from tripped
land mines,  turning dirt to mud in a  blaze
of glory. Here, there, falling,  bouncing,  dancing,
splashing,  churning,  boiling,  soaking,  winning the
battle and the war. A triumph over drought. Glistening
blooms bend in submission under the burden; paying
homage to the victor as the army retreats. Turmoil
ceases. Calm descends. Chaos gives way to
peace. Dark yields to light. Feathered
choirs herald in its brilliant beams
as a vibrant bow of color
sweeps the sky.
