The One Thing I Know

by Jaysa Manning

I've held myself
To standards too high
I've cried lion
To what was a fly
I've broken my back
To notice my twin
All to appease
My next of kin
My knowledge distorted
And fading away
I do not know
When is night and/or day
I know of one light
Which I've lost
I ignorantly traded
For a deceiving cost
Everything I now have
I would give away
Only to get a fraction back
Of what my twin stole that day
While my thoughts mix
And confuse me still
I long for that one light
And detest my empty will
