In the beginning

Can I walk you home?

I think I'm in love.

I asked God

For help from above.

She was tall and lovely,

A beautiful sight.

As we walked, I wished

It would last all night.

I wanted to kiss her

But afraid to try.

I think she was willing,

By the look in her eyes.

I took her hand,

She didn't pull back.

I felt confident,

I was on the right track.

We reached her house,

The lights were still on.

Her parents thanked me

For walking her home.

That was the night,

A true love story began.

After all these years,

I wish we could do it again.

Her parents said

Our love wouldn't last.

After sixty-plus years,

Time went by much too fast.
