Muses

Evelyn Sue

by C.M. Brown

Sing me a song
oh muse
Sing me something new
dear Evelyn Sue
my muse

A thought. A dribble. A charming of the devil.

Write something fresh
My inner demons I’ll confess.

Draw my feelings, shape me as you may
miss Evelyn Sue
my muse
By day.

Never dismayed. Always longing for a new word, an opaque.
Don’t make me quake,
Bake me something risqué.

Oh Evelyn,
confess how you make me undress.
Secrets you keep,
Hidden under a sheet.

A canvas of longing
of ever changing shape.

Twirl to mediate
Dance to the debate
Tell me the sum
Oh Evelyn - never negotiate

Permanently performed for all to see
Your theatrics humor me.

Oh Evelyn Sue

Be my muse.

Store my secrets,
may they be antiquities for all the world to see

Long dead to me.
But life to all who perceive
You and me bound by loves
Star crossed sweet charity.

No Rules Poetry Contest contest entry

My family and I recently went to a museum that talked about the Greek and Roman gods and the muses. The tour inspired me to write this poem. Hope you enjoy.
