The soul

by Neil Samways

The flower, like a soul, blooms in the summer sun

Its colourful petals enhancing its beauty

As it reaches for the blue ocean sky.

Swaying in the summer breeze

The flower dances in the meadow

Its head held high, as it stands tall and proud.

Glowing with heavenly beauty,

The flower reflects the colourful summer day.

The flower, like a soul, wilts in the storm.

Trapped and caged in the mud,

It drowns from the constant rain.

It’s faded petals droop towards the ground

As dark black clouds loom in the sky

Hiding the bright summer days.

Crumbling in the typhoon of rain

The flower withers to dust in the wind.

In the springtime gardens

The flower, like a soul, dances freely

Reaching for the springtime sun

It dances it the rain

Happy it’s survived the winters frost

It looks towards a brighter day

For the flower like a soul blooms in the summer sun

But it grows In the darkest rain.
