Just Me

by Claire Tennant

You are an adult now it's time to breathe
ignoring the taunts you receive
You are strong, loving ,despite the moods
forgiving, generous, seldom understood
You are Scots-born but Australia is home
accepting this land as your own
you are married to a long-term friend
with a heart of gold on whom you depend
yet YOU make enemies because
Jesus and not money is your God

You sometimes hear Mum in strength and word
and though you think it's absurd
You learned much from her despite
her boss cat tactics day and night
You get emotional, well just a tad
your first hero was your dad
you try to let go and pray
thinking "What would the Lord of my behaviour say?"

"Daughter mine I hear your despair
you just give it over in prayer
you remind yourself of the dreams you've chalked
lessons learned, to the future walk
You have simply had a rough trot
patience and strength can't be bought
Your hand I'll take night and day
guiding your steps along the way
smile and to yourself be true
always, despite setbacks, just be you."
