"Liz, the doctor will see you now?"
I nodded and walked down the hallway, past the exam room, to the office.
"She'll be with you in a few minutes."
Trembling, I closed my eyes, recalling how Mom and I waited in this very office for her biopsy results. Those minutes felt like an eternity. Looking back, I'd have given anything for time to stop.
Mom died six months later.
Terrified, my fingers brushed against my breast. I wasn't ready to die.
I whispered, "Mom, I need you. You always make it okay."
The door opened. The doctor smiled. "It's benign."
