Mermaid

It was our very favourite spot.

Spot and I just loved it there.

There where tides gushed, wild and hot.

Hot inside the mermaids' lair.


Lair with sea tangs in the air.

Air full of salt and mystery.

Mystery for us to share.

Share, resolve, defy the sea.


Sea which carried sorry sound.

Sound of sighing, sobs and tears.

Tears which echoed all around.

Around the mermaids' cave of fears.


Fears and tears drew us inside.

Inside where she sat on a rock.

Rock where mermaid sadly cried.

Cried and moaned, we got a shock.


Shocked, too, was she, she jerked with fright.

Fright occasioned by we two.

Two kindly friends who rued her plight.

Plight which rendered her so blue.


Blue were her eyes, her hair did fly.

Fly out behind, bright shining gold.

Gold which mesmerised my eye.

Eye which showed I should be bold.


Bold I was, I felt her pain.

Pain that racked her tiny frame.

Frame which salty tears did stain.

"Stain, and pain, there is no shame."


"Shame's what I feel, newcomer kind.

Kind of weird, I fear the sea.

Sea which never did I mind.

Mind of mine plays tricks on me."


"Me and my dog can help you.

You climb upon his sturdy back.

Back to the sea will go you two.

Two mariners brave, back on track."


Tracked the mermaid on to Spot.

Spot plunged in and stoutly swam.

Swam fast and strong through waters hot.

Hot and fierce, but Spot stayed calm.


Calm, her confidence returned.

Returned to waters blue she dipped.

Dipped her tail, her head was turned.

Turned and down through waves she slipped.


Slipped while brave Spot made for shore.

Shore where I was waiting, thrilled.

Thrilled my pal was so much more.

More than joyful, quite fulfilled.


Fulfilled, his tail wagged, he looked fussed.

Fussed he'd saved the mermaid's pride.

Pride we shared, that pride was just.

Just in time we beat the tide.
