Love lost

Of You...

by Rene Tyo

I walked by a home I used to own

It reminded me of you

It was burned to the ground

It reminded me of you

I walked past a withered tree today

It reminded me of you

My old dog didn’t pull at his leash

He reminded me of you

All that I see brings back bitter memories

Where there once was vitality

now there is none

Senses flood overwhelmed by grief

Once you had a grip on reality

now there is none

Substances have taken their exacting toll

Leading to yet another fatality

now there is no one

I climbed my weather beaten porch steps

they reminded me...

Love Poem Poetry Contest contest entry

While walking my dog we went by a home I had once owned. It and he inspired this piece. I thought of a dear friend, recently passed, who had many struggles.
