out there somewhere
I thought my time for love
was past,
my soul and my mate's
ships that passed
in the dark
when~out of the blue~
you appeared.
Disbelieving, I brushed your
compliments and attentions
aside.
What could you possibly
see in me?
You~young, handsome, winning,
witty, full of humor,
pursued by several eager
young women.
Me~older, a mother,
generously proportioned,
cynical and cautious.
But you persisted
and
changed my whole outlook
on life.
Perhaps I am worthy,
perhaps it's not too late,
perhaps dreams do come true,
perhaps there are soul mates.
The joy of spending time together,
the joy of thoughts of you when apart,
the joy of knowing you care for me,
about me,
the joy you bring my oft-broken heart .
But Time and tide wait for no man
or woman~
we were a generation apart,
too many obstacles in the way,
too many censorious eyes
turned in our direction.
It could not be~
but to know you exist,
to know you're the yin to my yang,
to know you're the match
to my fire . . .
is enough!
For we must meet again
in another lifetime,
another place
when the time will be right,
and then . . .
