The Staying Power of Love

by BethShelby

`Twas in July, you left my side.
Next week will mark the date.
Those seven years flew by so fast,
but love did not abate.

Last night, I saw you in my dreams.
It wasn't a surprise,
because most nights you come to me,
and there are no goodbyes.

It seems to me you’re always near.
I've never felt alone.
Though we last kissed so long ago,
I’m not convinced you’re gone.

A love like ours doesn’t die.
It lives within my heart.
It wasn’t meant to ever end,
although we are apart.

I know you will be waiting and...
together joined once more,
we’ll feel the fullness love can bring
on that eternal shore.
