A childhood fear made right

Mr. Moon

by Katiemae1977

I dared to walk this moonlit night
remembering my days gone past
when Mr. Moon gave me a fright
as I lay watching on the grass.

His face upon the cold white sphere
was big, and booming was his voice.
And when he spoke I quaked with fear
as in his spell I had no choice.

I can't recall the words he used
or why he chose to speak to me
The memory is so confused
I hoped this walk would set me free.

I dared look up and turn my gaze
but look I did, and through some clouds
the moon was cloaked in milky haze
It's beauty decked in ivory shrouds.

"Oh, Mr moon!" I said aloud
"Your beauty reigns this solemn night
I do beseech please make me proud
and take from me this wretched fright."

A silence split the midnight air
and peaceful crickets chirped their tune
I offered up a simple prayer
An ode to praise the quiet moon.

And now I walk this wond'rous night
A smile upon my aging face
There's finally no more raging fright
'neath Mr. Moon's redeeming grace

Writing Prompt

Write a poem of any type about the moon. Any type of writing except for prose is permitted.

Recognized

A true story. I used to lay on the grass in my yard while the moon talked to me. I used to refer to it as movies in the sky

Still a bit traumatized, I'm having trouble looking at the photo I choose
