Without this man I would be nothing.
What manner of man would hold His head
and face such cruel scorn?
what manner of man remained silent
whose heart was torn?
only one man could do it God's wish for His son
another man would try his best, but defeat succumb
What manner of man would lead as He
and befriend the sick and poor
no man would fraternise with those
whose future was insecure
His carpentry skills were noted, but His gifts took him beyond
the little town of Nazareth of which He was fond
He walked a path few would follow fewer still could lead
what manner of Man could do it and succeed?
A man who healed the sick, showing a better way
A man who's teaching never led astray
a threat to those who did not understand
God's perception of the Messiah was at hand
not one to push aside and ignore when He came
but a healing, caring man they chose to blame
for misguided teaching of their law and decreed
He was to be dispensed with, and the country freed
Upon a hill at Calvary on a cross cruel and rough
what manner of man could endure it without yelling, "Enough!"
Only the one God sent so we could be set free
He did it not for pride, but love for you and me
and hidden in the story of a life none could duplicate
is the Divine Master plan sealed not just by fate
He died that we might be relieved of guilt and imperfection
our future sealed by the firm kiss of a glorious resurrection
What manner of man could do it and give me a fresh start?
Only the One who lives today in every believer's heart
