A Dark Sonnet

Intrusive Thoughts

by Videl Sky

Since I was young, it’s never just been me -
A demon sings sweet sins into my ear.
To hand it the reigns, say yes, just agree,
Let it sing to my family - let them hear.
~
That the knife that slices my wedding cake
Should be piercing deep in my heart instead,
The crowd would gasp as I’d wilt on that stake -
I’d wager the dress would look lovely red.
~
I stood on a bridge as the warm wind blew,
My husband’s hand held mine tight as I dreamed.
For a jiff, I pictured taking him too,
Then he kissed me, its murmurs turned less keen.
~
I burned to hold my babe just once, no fear -
Still the demon sang, “Come now, just throw her~
