Poem about creatures of the night

Darkness

by Cecilia A Heiskary

Darkness ends the day
Yellow moon in the sky
The wind rustles the trees
Night creatures heard, but unseen

The owl hoots in the distance
Looking for small creatures
He spies one, swoop on in
Squeaking comfirms the capture

Little rabbits rustle in the leaves
Looking for food at the end of the day
Hoping the owl stays in the tree
Hopping noisly away

Cows can be heard mooing in the distance
Restless, because of danger near
A donkey brays, but is undetected
Protecting the cows from the unseen

Coyotes howling in the distance
Trying to lure their next meal
Creatures hide to live another day
Some are lucky, some will die

In the darkness of the night
Under the full moon
Creatures are stirring
Trying to survive the long night

All want to survive
Some will make it till daylight
Others won't be as fortunate
Feeding the creatures of the night

I live out in the country where I hear all the creatures of the night. I love nature and find it fascinating and it helps inspire me. Especially when I am writing.
