Mothers always come through
Mother's Baby
by prettybluebirds
I hate that Fred guy. He has my mother fooled, but not me. Sure, he puts on a good act, ruffling my hair and telling me what a good little boy I am, but he doesn't fool me one bit. The man is mean and evil and would rather I didn't exist. I repeat, I hate him.
Dad left me and Mom for some floozie he met at work a couple of years ago, and I know Mom has been lonely. I miss Dad, too, but I kinda resent him for what he did to us and don't care if he comes back or not. He has visited me several times, but I wasn't very nice to him, and he doesn't stop by much anymore. I'm supposed to stay with Dad and the floozie every other weekend, but I threw such a tantrum when Dad came to pick me up that neither Mom nor Dad insisted.
Now, back to this Fred jerk. I have to do something and do it fast because Fred has talked Mom into letting him move in with us. He dropped off some suitcases on his way to work this morning and intends to join us for supper. It ain't gonna happen. I have a plan that just might work.
When Fred arrives, Mom greets him with a big hug that makes me want to puke. I wait until Fred starts my way with a fake friendly smile plastered on his face before making my move. I let him get close, then leap on his leg, and with fully extended claws, I head for his most vulnerable spot.
"Aaagh," Fred screams. "You damned cat, I'll kill you, you son of a bitch. I hate cats."
Fred yanks me off his leg and kicks me across the room. I slam into the wall with enough force to stun me, but it's worth it. Mom is furious, which I knew she would be.
"You bastard," Mom yells at Fred. "You hurt my baby. Get out of my house and never return. I want nothing to do with someone who hates cats or would hurt an innocent animal. OUT, NOW!"
I must give old Fred credit for knowing when to shut his mouth. He quietly gathered his stuff and left. Mom ensures I'm okay, then sits in the rocker, stroking my fur and promising never to let anyone hurt me. I purr with contentment, mission accomplished.
