Can the posse finally capture the Black Mask Gang?
Dinner Time
by Alex Biasin
The sun was at that uncomfortable position in the sky, where the glare just always seemed to find your eyes. Carefully Colt, eased his head up over the ridge so he could see into the valley beyond.
Squinting to minimize the effects of the glare he could just about make out the raiders camp & where they had positioned their lookouts. Satisfied that he had spotted all the men, he slipped back down the ridge and made his way back to the rest of the posse who were waiting for him.
He mounted his horse and wheeled it around and started back at a slow canter, the last thing he wanted was to raise up a dust cloud that would be seen by the outlaws, better to be safe and take it nice and slow.
Little Feather was the first to spot him coming, no surprise there, out of the five-man posse not only was he the deadliest, but he had the best eyes in the county, the rumor was he could not only spot the flies on a carcass from a mile away but tell you what sex they were as well.
“Colt, did you find them?” asked Little Feather.
“Yeah, they were just where you said they’d be. They have set up a camp site with two lookouts, but we should be able to flank them easily enough if we wait until dark,” said Colt.
The men nodded in agreement, it sounded like a good idea…..
“Benjamin, it’s dinner time” came his Mothers voice from the kitchen.
“Just a minute Mum” replied Ben “We are about to capture the black mask gang at last.”
A palpable sigh could be heard as his Mother appeared in the doorway of the games room, “Now, dear, you can finish playing with your toys after dinner, come and wash up”.
“Ok, Mum” said Ben, “I just hope you aren’t giving the gang time to get away again.” As he walked from the room and flicked the light switch off, in the corner of his eye Ben thought that he could see a flicker of movement, but no, that was just silly…..
