No Escaping
Depression.
Hello, my name's depression,
perhaps you and I have met?
I'd have covered you with sadness,
mixed up with painful regret.
I'd have caused you doubt, you'd question,
what's the purpose of your life?
As darkness overtakes you,
leaving naught but hurt and strife.
You'd feel empty, quite hopeless,
no interest you'd display.
What once in life brought pleasure,
when I'm here, just fades away.
Down deep in your recesses,
where the light can't penetrate,
I'll seep in all those spaces,
joy once felt, I will negate.
I'll suffocate you softly,
whisper to you in your sleep.
Make sure you think you're worthless,
bitter tears I'll make you weep.
The pills the doctor gives you,
make you numb, won't help at all.
Your therapist only pretends
they'll catch you when you fall.
Your friends will all avoid you,
while your family does not see...
All the pain you suffer,
from which you will not break free.
I'll settle down inside you,
I will ALWAYS linger there.
There's really no escaping,
my dark blanket of despair.
