For anyone who has contemplated self-harm
Do No Harm
by Rdfrdmom2
Likely, we've all been there.
Acting like you’re made of steel Trying to hide the pain you feel Pretending dying wouldn’t matter Or angel hearts couldn’t shatter Thinking of the loss of your smile Their lack of love makes you sad Driving you to make choices that’re bad Giving death a major run If your mindset isn’t undone Before you walk that final mile When self-harm is on your mind Remember those you’ll leave behind Cry for what you’ve lost Think about the real cost Your selfish act will compile Then put death thoughts away Transform all of your dismay Into a brand new plan Show them you really can Living is surely worthwhile jbh 8-24-08 |
The Words Are The Same contest entry
Recognized |
The contest requires that a poem be written using at least nine of the following words: Angel; Heart; Steel; Death; Cry: Smile; Love; Shatter; Run; and Hide. As it turns out, I used all ten. This was written with someone in mind; however, my life has been touched more times than I care to admit by someone's suicide or suicide attempt. Those who were successful (seems a strange term to use when someone takes their own life, doesn't it?) have forever changed my life in ways I cannot even begin to share with you. The most recent one was in May and is still sending reverberations through our church and community. I don't cast judgement as I have been so dangerously close due to constant physical pain in the midst of some soul-shattering events and know how easy it is to slip into that bottomless black hole. I just pray that anyone even remotely considering doing this will make that phone call or reach out to someone first.
