Doing a thing the last time without realizing it..
Chapter's End
by BethShelby
When I was just a little child,
time barely seemed to crawl. The days passed by so tediously with scarce a change at all. Days still crept as I grew older though slowly changes came. But in my adolescent years, most things still stayed the same. Time speeded up, as I look back across the many years, Now, it appears there's so much change, it brings me close to tears. So many things which I once did, I can no longer do. When they happened for the last time, I seldom ever knew. Places which were favorite haunts, no longer look the same. The passing years erased the trail along the way I came. Acquaintances, once familiar, are nowhere to be found. Back then I took for granted that they'd always be around, I love to read good books, because each seems just like a friend, but unlike life, at chapter's end, you can begin again. Life needs to sound a warning bell when chapters start to close. the ending can come abruptly before a person knows. "You can't go back", folks often say "You should forget the past." But it might help if we could know this time will be our last. There is seldom any closure; no fanfare, nor goodbyes. Change sneaks upon us silently and takes us by surprise. |

Since I just used the last three verses in the story "No Warning Bell," I decided to reactivate the entire poem.
