O' Holy Night, Beyond that Door

by jlsavell

O' Holy Night
Beyond That Door

' O' Holy Night...', the old static P.A.system blares
charging the sullen mood as we find our place in line
' A thrill of hope...', believing the cold weary world cares
For our day has been trying, and for loved ones we pine

Bound by duty, thousands of miles from the heart's abode
' O' night when Christ was born...', we've gathered to celebrate
The birth of mankind's hope as the primal story's told
Still, war is the culmination of mankind's hate

' For yonder breaks...', the sound of deadly mortar attacks
as we regroup in the mess hall for a Christmas feast
' Led by the light of faith...', we rest our guns on a rack
and gaze atop a trimmed tree, the shining star of East

The song keeps playing as we try to muster a smile
' O' hear the angel's voices...', the fallen cries bring our tears
but still reminded why Christ came amid man's trials
'The King of Kings...', reverberate in our ears

So we chatter among ourselves as our plates are filled
Then sounds..'Truly He taught us to love one another'
and in that very moment the mess hall abruptly stilled
For is this love, we'd lay down our lives for each other ?

' O' night divine...', the hour has come to holster our guns
and fall in line to uphold our country's place in war
' Sweet hymns of joy...', though love the world shuns
But, as soldiers, we pray for His peace beyond that door
