My life as I know it

Bittersweet

by Janet Foor

Born on the wrong side of tracks, I lived with my grandmother until, when I was six-years-old, Momma got married. We moved into town where I had my own room and indoor plumbing.

Growing up too quickly, older boys always liked me. I married at seventeen and soon became a mom myself. I loved every minute of being the mother of two talented, smart and headstrong children. I thought life was good.

Years later, the children were married with children of their own when my husband said, "I think I married down".

I left.

My job turned into a better job and then an even better one. I remarried; we traveled and built a life together. Again, I thought life was good. However, my children never forgave me for leaving their father. Today, my life is bittersweet.
