Bethlehem's Star

by Dawn Munro

Bethlehem's Star

Mysterious, the light that led the way
to stable and a humble manger where
in swaddling clothes, a precious infant lay,
who someday all the worldly sin would bear.
Three kings, such wise men, knew enough to pray,
and offer gifts, acknowledging how rare
a privilege was theirs this special day -
that something magical was in the air.

And on a hillside, shepherds saw the light,
and wondered at its beauty, mystified,
until a host of angels gave them fright,
but spoke to reassure them - angels cried:
"Fear not, for you will have a King this night!"
And men, in great relief, it's said, all sighed.

Each Christmas Eve I gaze upon that star,

and long to reach out - stroke it with my hand,
for somehow when it watches from afar,
I feel it weeps for all our Father planned
when to the earth He sent His holy Son,
that in our hearts, His sacred will be done.

Still I, for one, surrender all I am,
in fervent hope He'll use me for His plan.

I started out intending to write an Italian sonnet, then modified to suit my muse, who THEN took over completely! (*smile*)

"And he said unto him, why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." Mathew 19:17
"He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness," Mathew 19:18
"Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Mathew 19:19
