How she finally leaves.

No More forgiveness

by jusylee72

The door slammed, echoing down the long hallway. Marcy wasted no time. Carrying a backpack and wearing the clothes she had changed into, she raced down the corridor. Logically, she knew looking back wouldn't matter. There was no way he was following her this time. Yet, the old fear came back beckoning her to glance back, half expecting to be followed by the ghost of the man she had just killed. She knew she looked strange in jeans and high heels and wearing long white gloves so she quickly exited the side door of the hotel. Once she got in the car the gloves came off.

She set the trap herself. Inviting him over one more time, pretending she was still in love with this man. Making the hotel reservations. Making sure the children were with a babysitter.

Spiking his favorite drink, Jack and Coke with a paralyzing drug, was the easy part. Watching him die was harder than she thought it would be but strangely rewarding.

She was relieved when he became disoriented and fell to the floor. It happened faster than she thought it would. The best moment was just before he died. Even though his mouth could not move, his eyes asked her why? She spent the time freely answering his question.

"I believe your words were I was good for nothing -Not in bed, not in the kitchen, not with the children.

"Yet the next day you called me at one in the afternoon and told me you invited your boss and some of his coworkers to dinner. You expected me to have a perfect dinner prepared for them by 6:00 p.m.

"That was the last day I forgave you.

"I tried so hard to please you, but no matter what I was never good enough. That day our son Matthew was thirsty. I gave him a glass of chocolate milk. My sister was coming by shortly to pick up the kids. You don't like the kids around while we are entertaining. When the doorbell rang, our son got excited. He loves his Aunt Ruth. So he ran to the door, he spilled the milk. I had just finished vaccuming, now there was a chocolate stain on the floor. After Ruth left with the kids, I frantically tried to remove the stain. Nothing was working. You walked in twenty minutes later. By then I had burned the appetizers and the stain was not removed.

"You acted as if I had committed a mortal sin. Screaming at me, humiliating me. Telling me what a terrible wife and mother I was.

"You were furious. You called me vile names. Your Boss would be there in twenty minutes. You tried to clean it but just made the stain worse.

"When your boss showed up a few minutes later you stood up. Straightened your tie. Ordered me into the kitchen and quieted yourself down. You put on a good show. You opened the door and calmly let them in. You laughingly made a comment about the stain on the carpet and how children will be children. You lovingly explained that I had accidentally overcooked the appetizers but that I was a wonderful cook and would have that fixed in just a few minutes. You even came into the kitchen with them, got them all a drink and gave me a small kiss on the cheek. You called me the "little Mrs.". The rest of the night went very well.

"You were charming. You treated me with respect. You complimented the dinner. You told funny stories. You had them laughing and I was having fun.

"Yes, that's when I finally got angry. You see, I never realized that you could control your temper. Yet, now, you put on this act in front of these strangers.  You couldn't respect and love me when we were alone. I had never seen that before. Ten years of forgiving over and over. Ten years of trying to be someone I am not. Ten years of holding back my emotions. Ten years of taking whatever you gave me and being grateful for it."

"They left about 10:30. As soon as the door closed you looked at me with hate in your eyes. You said you were going to bed and not to bother joining you. Then you took two more beers and went upstairs to our room."

"I waited until I was sure you were asleep. I didn't want you to hear the car.

"I left that night. I left with nothing. I went to my sisters. The next day I emptied our savings, took the children and disappeared. It took you almost eight months to find me. You threatened to take the kids away. I had to find a way to stop you. This was my only choice.

"By the way, I made the room reservation under a Maybelle Struther's name. She's a local prostitute. I dressed up for you the way you like, with long white gloves and high heels.  I wore a long blond wig and sunglasses when I checked in.  I used a southern accent and was rude to the clerk so she would remember what a whore I looked liked.  Since I had to survive on my own, I have learned all about fake IDs. The clerk merely glanced at it. I got here early and kept the gloves on before I opened the door. No fingerprints are in the room except yours and whoever was here before.

"I've been dating a doctor and looked up how to induce a heart attack with a small drug I was able to get. No trace will remain in your blood. Good night dear. Don't worry, I arranged for a late check out time and I put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door.  No one will bother you.  Sleep tight."
