He worked nights; she worked days; the cat played the field
Feline Introductions
by Y. M. Roger
The organ echoed the announcement of the bride’s entrance and Lachlan’s attention focused on the double-doors as they were flung open to reveal his beautiful Deidre.
Immediately, he flashed back to their ‘introduction’.
Lachlan was late getting home, and, as per his usual ‘cat magic’, Sylvester was out and sitting on the front steps. Because Lachlan was night shift, his tardiness meant the sun was already up. He bent over to retrieve Houdini cat. At that moment, the brownstone door swung open revealing a young woman in medical scrubs who hurried to lift his cat.
“Sylvester!” “Figaro!” Both exclaimed, simultaneously.
Standing ‘attached by cat’, they laughed.
“Is he yours?” They inquired together.
Her beauty then was only rivaled by the vision in white reaching for his hand now.
Forever reading his thoughts, Deidre grinned and whispered, “Is he yours?”
Lachlan squeezed her hand as they turned to the altar.
“Always.”
