What to be wee means

A chapter in the book Be Wee With Bea

Being Wee

by Liz O'Neill

Background
We finally end up finding how all of Bea's exercises pays off and she finds out what being wee means.
As we have strolled along with Bea the wee bear she has found exercises that have helped her to solve problems. Some might say she is a great success. She must have some magic formula to be able to live as happily as she does. This is true even though things do not always go the way she wishes they would.

She has gotten one very important bit of wisdom from the maker of the seed of a mustard flower. Looking at the center we can see the seed is so very, very wee. Bea's lesson is about how to be wee and yet be thought very very great by the maker, just like that seed.

You see, she doesn't really very often think of life as a problem, as long as she remembers to talk to the maker. We've noticed many times when she'd forgotten to do that. But when she finally did her talk to the maker exercise, she calmed down and things worked out as they were supposed to.

We have seen how at first, Bea thought she needed to fix every problem she saw. But in learning to be wee, she has found a new way to be happy. We are not just talking about her wishing that she had a wee body. No, being wee has come to mean so much more to Bea. Whenever she talks to the maker to ask for help in solving big, big problems, she realizes she is wee. She realizes she cannot make anything go right without the help of the maker.

Did you notice, she never named herself Bea the Great Bear, not even when she was talking about her paw prints on Bea's Golden Path. She did not really understand what the word humble meant, but the maker asked her to do a humble exercise. This simply meant that she would take time out of her other exercises to thank the maker of all things for any and all of the gifts she has discovered. Especially the music all around her and of course her friends and her ability to breathe when she remembered.

Being wee also meant that she listened to all things, to hear the message the maker wanted her to hear. She learned that as long as she remembered to be wee, she would be great. This sometimes confused her, but she had learned not to question the ways of the maker of all things and especially, the maker of wee bears.

I wanted you to meet Bea, to walk along Bea's Golden Path, to do some of her rigorous exercises, to discover some of her wisdom, to learn to listen to the all living things around you. Don't forget the rocks, they just might have something to teach you. But, most of all, I hope that by your meeting Bea the wee bear, you have learned to Be Wee With Bea.
