Ode For You Rake

by Lulube

Smell the clean, fresh crisp air
lingering at winter's tail
Spring needs to officially wake up
then send best wishes through the mail

Sightings of crocuses
and snow bells, courageously
are breaking through partial frozen ground
First blooms spreading, contagiously

Excitement's building up
as the last snow melts away
Few more days and I'm outside to weed
Need to find my rake for that day

Can't do my gardening
in my own special skilled way
unless I have that black, compact rake
that I received on my birthday

The rake being plastic
Is soft and it's bendable
You can rake right over any plant
Not fearing plants expendable

Has a light weighted pole
Longer than any other
For reaching in the back and grabbing
that debris, that's such a bother

The long curving fingers
They're so sleak, yet persuading
Using the head on a side angle
Cuts the edge, you're contemplating

I must start the hunt now
So my rake is by my side
I can't do the right job without it
If lost, future gard'ning's denied!

This ode's for you, my rake
There's just not another one
that does those movements all day long and
stays by my side, through blazing sun
