Exercising Sermonic Demons

by LisaMay

His smooth, silken words of support
speak softly to my sacred soul:
enfolding and golden, soothing with balm,
phrased as my cradle from harm –
touch of comforting care, tender-loving,
they settle my tremble with calm.

Your tough-talking tongue,
whip-lashing strips of belligerence
to flay the bruised air all a’quiver.
Your demonic sermon to deliver,
forked fury spits out with such venom –
cruel words abusively hurled.

Our own words to-and-fro we exchange:
we chatter and chirrup on every matter,
inflection reflects ups-and-downs.
Is your dialogue delivery by devil or chivalry?
Dimensions of gesture reveal our displeasure:
raised in anger, we lower ourselves.
