Evil is as Evil Does

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good
What exactly does it mean?

Does it mean I can take the evil and treat it kind?
Giving love will make it blind?

Does it mean to feed it when hungry it is
Will this settle the achy itch?

Does it mean being gentle to it
Petting it like a stray cat with fleas?

Does it mean speaking nicely to it
Gentle words will settle the thief?

Maybe it means letting it be
Evil will do as evil is

Maybe pretending it doesn't exist
Invincible evil is worst, don't you think?

Overcome evil with good
not overcome evil with bad
evil is bad already
only the good can tame it
