Witness to a Kill
by Bill Schott
75 Word Flash Contest Winner
I gaze with rapt attention, through the parlor window, out onto the front porch, at the calico kitten preparing to pounce on its prey.
Stealthily approaching from behind a cracked and weed-won earthen pot, the freshman forager arrives at the point of attack.
Muscles visibly contracting, the coiled kitten springs forward onto the unsuspecting and slow-responding pine cone.
The kitten pursues the wildly reactive blue spruce seed dispenser until her vanquished victim is decidedly defeated.
