You wrote EXACTLY what I wanted to say... only you said it first. Now I get to babble until I reach 150 characters so I can post my review. To the writer who got my vote ;o)

Your points are very well made and depict someone who is a deep thinker.
How can we call writers introverts? I would think an introvert is someone who does not display his thoughts to anyone. Hemingway may well have been an introvert who became an extrovert when he drank. There is so much entailed in these tags we put on people. Suffice it to say, who knows????

Thanks, Raffaelina. I think introvert was the only Latin word (vert) the phyc's had, so they went with it. In truth, we look inside ourselves for outward expression. That's the opposite of the classic term for withdrawal. But we're stuck with it.

I imagine several writers on this site will nod in agreement. I certainly found resonance in your words. Writing is a fascinating pastime, addictive and all-consuming when one gets into it. As with any artistic endeavour, we strive for perfection - an impossible target!

Yes, it's amazing. In fact, everyone is in agreement (in different versions) so much there have been no other entries. Thanks for your review.

Some are introverts and hide behind the pen. For the most part, a truth seeker and teller of it, is the most persecuted and sometimes killed for it. The writers of the Bible knew of this. Polycarp comes to mind. Sending you my best today as always, and best very wishes for the upcoming contest,
Sally :))

I am, indeed, nodding my head in agreement with much of what you wrote. Play by play, exactly what I have often thought or said. When you said, "lets look carefully at the term introvert," I was expecting more of a breakdown and explanation to bolster your claims. Great piece overall.

Thanks JR. So glad you liked the piece. In my conclusion, I was addressing the claim that introverts only look inside and don't get involved, but when we look at history it's just the opposite. Writers lead the forefront in exposing Injustice. And the prisons of oppressive regimes are full of them. Maybe I should go into that more. Thanks again

I like this, the way it was written and flowed--very relatable. Does that mean I'm an introvert for sure? I thought I was, but grew out of it, yet your piece kind of brings me back to that question of how other famous others--despite being so influential--were introverts, so doesn't that mean I am too? Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, so happy you liked it. And your question is valid. The term is so broad, we can almost reclassify it. Introvert in no way means tuned out when it comes to writing. Its just the opposite. Its tuned in, informative, and involved. But not on a podium, but in the power of the written word. Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I have never thought about writers as being introverts, but you bring a very good case. Reports say that Alan Jackson, one of my favorite country singers, is extremely shy. Who would have thought it? There maybe something to it. I enjoyed reading and thinking about it. Good luck with the contest.

This is nicely written and I was nodding my head from time to time. You use good examples by including those writers you mention, to show how introverts come in all shades. I am like you - bore rigid by small talk. (The silent martyr is a good description). Others have asked me if I am going to sleep, and sometimes I actually do if I am in a long-winded meeting or at a dinner table with a hijacked conversation - but one part of me always remains alert and i can answer anyone who directly addresses me.

Thanks, Lisa. It's amazing. I've received 8 reviews on this so far, and all are very similar to what you say here. We definitely all share qualities that place us as observers and chroniclers. We hate having our thinking time wasted. Thanks, again.

I am a PTSD-challenged introvert with extrovert asperations. Your piece is well written and to the point, I see myself and others in every line. Continue to be an introvert and put out excellent work.

Yes I think you are right on target...at least for me. I enjoy being around people when I want to be around them which isn't very often. I like my alone time, writing, reading, watching a well written movie. But we can use writing to express opinions and reach more people-so there is that. Anyway, I enjoyed your read as you can see by my response.

Thanks, Terry, I hear you. My alone time is valuable to me. I can enjoy others' company but in a small intimate setting. In a group with people competing to talk is sheer torture. But I go, family, etc., so I endure. A little chardonnay helps. :>)
