This is a very enjoyable story, Lisa May, and I loved the unexpectedly innocent conclusion. I don't know if you get the show "Mom" where you are, but it starred Anna Faris, who was, at the time, married to Chris Pratt of "Guardians of the Galaxy" fame. He guest-starred as her love interest in one episode, where she came home very late, with hay in her hair, and glowing radiantly. I thought of that when I read your story, so I had certain expectations that I'm so relieved were not executed. I love the innocence, and Rosemary's closing lines really bring it all together.

Hi Michele - thanks for reviewing. I'm pleased this story appealed to you.
I'm thinking I should write a series of short glimpses of young people/students who have boarded at my house over the years... there have been many interesting situations.
We do get 'Mom' on TV here. It's on late so I often watch it and enjoy the humour. Bonny's personality is outrageous.

I love the show, and the fact that they mine humor from alcoholism and Alcoholics Anonymous in a respectful way, just as M*A*S*H* did with war.
As far as writing glimpses of young people in your life, you're already doing it with Andrew, and did it with Zoe, so why not? Those stories are very enjoyable.

It is our experiences that help guide us into becoming the people we do. I am happy she had such a wonderful experience and it helped to show her that path she wanted to take. Did she if fact become a vet?

Loved this story especially because it shows about your mother's heart. (Yes, I know you don't have kids but God gave you kids to love anyway.) And I loved "Rosemary's" response to that experience!!

Thanks for your lovely comments about my story. My nurturing heart can't help but love young people.
I've had such a nice response to this story I think I'll write a series about the young people who have lived under my roof and in my heart from time to time.

Sounds like a good book!! 💖

A charming story. I reckon Rosemary was lucky to have you keeping an eye out for her welfare.
Beautifully told and easy to read. And for me a charming, unforeseen ending.

Your maternal instincts kicked in when you saw undeniable evidence that your young tenant had been so close to a stack of hay that some remained in her hair. I could almost feel your sense of relief when you heard her explanation. She will always remember the incident that made her decide on a career path.

Lisa,
This is a touching story. It's funny and warm, and I recall some of the people who looked after me when I was younger.
I have always wanted to see a live birth; the net is a good place to see dogs and cats take their first breaths.
I also like the the down-to-earth manner in which you tell this story.
Good luck with this and all your work,
Cindy

What a great story. So well written. I think we all felt your concern for her welfare when she stayed out all night. Her glowing return, complete with strands of hay, made us all jump to the same conclusion - how quickly we make assumptions. Your ending was totally unexpected, and humorous.
Well done.

This is very interesting. It wasn't really about Rosemary, at least not that much. It was more about the worry, feeling and assumptions of the host mother. I like how it is only the young men who have raging hormones in her world. Funny.
But, seeing a cow give birth, was a first-time experience.

This was so funny! I would have come to the same conclusion. I actually became invested in this story; I was relieved for you when she told you what had actually happened. Keep up the good work!

This is a sweet story Lisa and you took your role seriously here and cared for this girl and showed concern about her life, even if you got it all wrong you must have had a laugh about it and childbirth is a traumatic event indeed, not wonder she was put off after the birthing of that calf. Ha ha ha, love Dolly x
