I don't the have answer. I have to believe people are capable of change. Surely you aren't the same person you were and ten and I'm not same person I was in 1969 either. Fifty-three years is long time to hide the monster she was at twenty while still doing LSD. Do you honestly believe she is just planning her next burtal murder?

YEP. She should have not only never been granted parole, and subsequently released from prison, but executed as all of Manson's goons should have been, lined up one right after the other with Charlie-poo leading the way. Time will tell what will happen. Appreciate the comments and the review.

Oh my goodness this is very informative and overwhelming. Do you think she's been rehabilitated after 53 years in prison? A stupid parole board with no scruples are letting her back into society whole caca!she didn't show no mercy committing her crime why in the he'll should we feel an emotion for her being let go?

Contentious and fascinating piece of writing. You raise some huge questions here in an intelligent and diplomatic manner. Have you seen Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood'. It brilliantly re-imagines the murder of Sharon Tate. Worth a look.

I don't know where you are going with the moon walk, but I do agree about Leslie. She and a whole lot of other cheerful killers should be executed instead of living a somewhat limited life on the taxpayers' dime.

Can you say soulless? Those that participated in the Manson family reign of terror were all void of conscience and soul. Didnt Squeaky Fromme get released then go after President Ford? It is a damn shame that people are stuck behind bars for lesser crimes but then they go and release this. I felt your passion in this. Well written. Gretchen

Interesting thoughts on the subject. I wonder what on earth Van Houten will do once she's released? I read she's 73 years old. How does someone that age go about making her way in the world? Perhaps she'll be killed by one of the repeat offenders that are allowed to run loose in California. She might be safer if she stays in prison. That was a terrible incident in America's history. Manson was the worst of the worst, and those women who followed him didn't have any excuse. I've read of how he tried to influence the jury. Van Houten can count herself lucky she's survived this long. I doubt that she'd be a threat at her age, but after what she did she doesn't deserve to be free. judi

Yeah....I get baffled over these types of releases. I guess life in prison does not really mean life. It seems to me that the victims' families should have a say in whether murderers should be released. Excellent writing here that holds the reader's attention and makes the reader think.

You are so right, how long before she goes back to her old self? Can she cope to be free? I guess will wait and see, but usually, they go back to the prison because life is too hard outside its walls.

I don't really have an opinion on the survival or release of the instigators of these heinous events, not the only events, when the death sentence was abolished, any other worthy sentence was affectively banished too, so I don't have an opinion as a result, biblically speaking, an eye for an eye was good given, anything else has has broken that sentence, which throws it in the furnace of history, (there were cities of refuge, were one could be probably judged at that time anyway. What is fitting if one changes those laws, beautifully written Brett, blessings Roy

This is very well written. I can't say I enjoyed reading because of the subject matter. The writing was good. Thank you for sharing.

Where were you in (A freshman in high school or maybe a sophomore depending on the month.)

Does the parole board seem to give one iota of rat's poop how crimes affect these victims? (NO! and we see evidence of it every day.)
