This poem, Love Gone, has the proper formatting and makes me think a moment about The Dream Deferred and A Raison in the Sun.
No comparison after that. Love is an all-powerful essence that lingers.

Thanks, Bill, for an excellent review. You're always so thoughtful, and I enjoy your reviews. My husband has had several strokes, so my heart has been with you in this time. May God bring good recovery to your wife.

Hi Verna, your poem is beautifully stated in soulful lines and verses. Of special note:

Is love that's gone transformed to new emotion,
Like hate or fear, despair or resignation?

(thought-provoking.)

Well done. Well-chosen artwork. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. Xo. M

Lovely poem, with an unanswerable question, but a thought-provoking one. You have spoken truth about the lingering memories even if the love fades. Best wishes for the contest with your excellent poem.

So beautifully said! I never thought of it that way - after all there was real love at one point for those couples who suddenly found themselves separated from one another. Yes, that memory of love will "linger on" !
Best wishes in the contest!

This was my thought when a marriage of 35 years broke up. (not mine!)

Of course, not yours! But I know exactly what you mean. It's often a shock because from the outside everything looked good but then we're shocked by the sudden breakup. Sigh.

Virtual six, my friend. This is short, but powerful. I think on this subject a lot. I think love is like any living thing and must be nutured to survive. That's my conclusion at 681/2! More later....
Sending you my best today as always and best wishes in the upcoming contest.

Beautiful, thought-provoking writing. However, given my own lifetime of experience, I have come to believe that if something is gone, it never was Love. In my opinion, so many other feelings are described as Love. I've been through those feelings of thinking I knew Love. Fortunately, though, by the Grace of God, I've learned what Love is. It never leaves. Even if a loved one passes, it still remains. Any message about a feeling being gone, is not representing the feeling of Love. Love stays. And with all of this being said, I completely understand what you have presented so well, too. I enjoyed reading your book beautifully descriptive writing.

Best wishes

Alex

This is a very nice poem that you have written about what love is. I enjoyed listening to it very much. It flows well when it is read aloud. I wish you the very best with all of your writing and I'll also wish you a very happy and prosperous new year. Patricia.

You raise an excellent question that I never thought about. The writing is very romantic and poetic.

Good luck in the contest.

Interesting question posed in your poem, Verna! They say love is eternal...and I tend to agree with that. Perhaps we turn it inward or manifest the experience toward a new person, so desperately needs it!
I don't think it ever dies. At least in our memory it lives on and on...

What's up with this trend? My son in laws aunt left her husband Christmas Eve because she couldn't STAND his abuse one more day. Which would make perfect sense if she wasn't 80 years old and this wasn't their sixtieth year of marriage! I was floored!

I enjoyed your philosophical perspective in this verse about the meaning of love. You've invested so much thought into this subject in your questioning free verse that it can't help but stir the reader's consciousness. I'm left in agreement with you that, when it appears to be gone, its memory is guaranteed to live on, such is its transforming influence. Well done, Verna, and good luck! An excellent entry! Debbie
