I've missed many Christmas holidays due to the military. Sucks bad! Don't blame you for risking it.
This part seemed clumsy and hard to read. Maybe revise. Just my two cents:
I couldn't take it! Then I couldn't take it, I had to because I couldn't take it.

Was it too dangerous to travel home because of the weather? You didn't say here whether you made it home or not? I expect a miracle occurred and you made it home. I enjoyed your fun write as you likened it to Ebenezer Scrooge spending Christmas on his own, but a miracle did occur in the story and he spent Christmas day with his nephew, Fred.
I spent one Christmas on my own during the pandemic and it came and went like any other day and I was sad about that.
