This was great, and it reminds me of Carrie when her hand popped out of the grave, I heard a story once where a man killed a bird and the next day when he went outside a group of birds swarmed around him, be careful lol.

Oh my goodness Mary, the birds are watching you! You did your best to honour their deaths, but birds have long memories and see everything. Hello Mary,
I've never heard of birds drowning before. I've had a lot of bugs drown in standing water, but never a bird. Where I used to live we had multitudes of crows and ravens, no starlings. Whenever a crow died, by whatever means, all the other crows for a long way off gather and start squawking. It can be almost deafening.
I think of you and your husband often and say a prayer. I hope things are getting better, though I know it's still a struggle.

This is a funny tale, within the sadness of death. I have killed chipmunks by seeding water in a tall pail, but I did it deliberately. My varmint killing has been widely disdained.

An interesting take on the intentions of Starlings. You describe a large amount of deaths, but most birds do not just drown in water without something aiding their death. While you present a good scenario as to why they would be angry at the deaths of their friends, I don't think they have a revenge reflex.

One would still expect the starlings to have been a bit smarter, especially after seeing what had happened to their brothers and sisters. But well done for giving them such a decent burial even if some did try to escape or make a rude gesture before ascending to heaven.
