An excellent entry for the Free Verse Poetry contest. Such lovely descriptions when comparing her to her flowers and plants. I love the ending and especially the last two lines. Beautifully written. Good luck in the contest,

This poem about your aunt was beautiful. I hope my nieces and nephew remember me this fondly when I am gone. I loved the end with the tulip. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thank you Jessi. I don't think you were shy like my aunt who never even had a date. You will be remembeed as a caring aunt who was fun to be around unless you outlive them all. You've got a long way to go before anyone has to rememeber you. I"m glad you liked my poem.

This is a nice ode that you have written to a lady who life was not lived in vain. She did have a purpose in this world and I think you pointed it out pretty well in your poem. I loved your poem. It's very well written. Patricia.

Thank you Patricia. I wish she had been more outgoing and happier but she did find joy working with her flowres.

I can see communicating with flowers, since you don't have to worry about them lying to you or trying to take advantage, like most humans. Sounds like a life lived well, but a lonely one. Thanks for sharing.

LOL, Yes she did have that advantage. I think I would feed I missed my shot at life and didn't experience it all. However, If it turned out bad, a life among the flowers wouldn't be a bad option.

No life was meant to be lived in vain, and it's legacy will live in spite of what think and believe, there's nothing that will cancel or stop that from happening,
This is a beautifully written post dear Beth, a deeply reflective poem, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Your poem came out beautifully and I wish I had extra stars. Such a beautiful character study in your poem, and I'm sure all the readers will feel they have come to know this woman through your well-chosen words.

Thank you Jim. I pleased you liked my poem. I like to be able to capture a bit of someone I care about character on paper. She did enjoy working with her flower but other than that I wonder if she got much pleasure from life.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading. Your Aunt Eva, I can tell, from reading was a special lady, who I believe had beauty inside. I wish she could have believed that. Good luck with the contest.

Thank you, Barbara. I think my aunt would have been happier if she felt better about herself but I think she did feel joy as she worked with her flowers.

Your Aunt sounds like a recluse but she allowed plants and flowers into her life and they thrived at her hand, she obviously had much love of nature, a fine post Beth, much enjoyed, love Dolly x x x

Thank you Dolly, I feel my aunt could have had a better life if she hadn't felt such low self esteme. I loved her but I felt sorry for her. However she did get pleasure from working with flowers.

I think this is beautiful, Beth! It has such a timeless feel to the poetry and the fact that it's based on your maiden aunt makes it all the more special. I love the poignancy of it and the way the verse evolves seamlessly to complete its cyclical conclusion. The imagery of gardening and nature provides a charming cohesion to this skilfully composed free verse. One small edit - re(p)ose. Well done and good luck! Debbie

I think you meant "looking THROUGH" a cracked and foggy glass
HERSELF unfit to be a bride
AHE? Oh, I think you mean "she"
REPOSE instead of respose
It sounds like Eva had a mental illness that would have been treatable today. Beth, this is a lovely tribute and the last few lines were absolutely beautiful. It feels like you rushed through this and there were many errors, which is not like your poetry at all.
I've had that kind of thing happen with the font when editing here; I had to literally retype the part that wasn't right.
Good luck to you in the contest.

Thank you Pam. I did write this late and had a lot of problems with the site and got very frustrated. I corrected the errors you mentioned, but was late from an appointment so I still have gone over it throughly . Eva's mom died when she was young and her sister Alma took her in. I blame the sister, my grandmother, for her low self image. Alma told he was sickly and she try to marry. There was nothing wrong with her health.
