Some very useful tips here, some of which apply to all forms of writing. Your advice about reading your writing out loud is a critical element. I imagine this will do well in the contest. It certainly deserves to.

These bits of advice sound like they will work in helping someone inject a bit of humor into what they are putting out here. I personally am funny looking, which gets laughs where I am.

You make good points in your essay. Of course, what some will think is funny, others won't, and I think it is very hard to write good humour. I like clever plays on words, but others may not. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

I don't think I'm particularly good at comedy, from the myriad of jokes I've heard I only remember one. But a lot of the notes you've written could be applied to most forms of writing, so well done, timing is most important, which all comedians usually have, and writing wouldn't be any different, well done thank you for the advice, blessings Roy

This was very enlightening! I definitely need to make use of some of these tips. I especially have problems with "Show. Don't tell." Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
