Hey babe, I looked to see if you had anything new and when I went back enough pages and didn't see you, I came looking for you. I never have to read very far to recognize one of your poems about your sister. As always, it is beautiful but heart breaking because I know the memories like this that have to hurt you so bad.

You write these from inside the deepest part of your soul and this one is so sad about the dress for your wedding. However, when you write from that place it is always so descriptive of where your heart is and how it still pops in and out of you like a festering wound. You are in my thoughts and prayers always. Awesome poem my dear Jess. Love, Debi

Addiction is ravaging our society. It appears to be a willing companion to depression. Your poem is very descriptive which many can relate with. Thanks for sharing your imagination. I did enjoy it. Well done, dear Jessica.

I wish I had a 6 to give this so consider this a virtual 6 stars. Beautifully written and incredibly sad. A proper entry for the Sad Poems writing prompt. Good luck.

What a sad account of a woman's final descent into addiction. A bride who never got her wedding dress walking down the aisle. Instead she wears it in her casket. A powerful entry for the contest.

Depression and addiction go hand in hand. I was sold on a wedding as the beginning promised. But we never got to that point. This left me with haunting memories of those I've lost over the years to such tragedy.
This line was chilling. (Vows hush
behind the echo
of a eulogy,)
God bless,
Steve

This was a painful poem to read. It reminded me of my daughter's two weddings, both ended in grief. The first came a day after the wedding. She was only 17 and far too immature to handle things. The second cam when she was in her late 30s and she was trying desperately to put her life back together. Lastly, I was reminded of my overwhelming grief at viewing her still, lifeless body laying there in a casket. So much unsaid, so much not yet done.

Thank you. A few years have goner past since she died, but I feel that a hundred years will not be enough to make me forget.

Jessica, Wow! What a difference a day or a week makes, indeed. Your poem illustrates the ongoing battle of drug addiction and the reality of it. It is a dead-end. Of special note:

a trail of tears
follow
her casket
down the aisle

(This is a very sad, and a most unwanted grand finale.)

Excellent photo choice. Well done ~ well written. Margaret

This is quite a haunting free verse about death and addiction with the focus on a bridesmaid dress never to be worn. You cleverly conjure up a series of pictures throughout this poignant story. Well done, Jess! Debbie

Your words portray the sadness of watching a friend fall into addictions arms. A poignant poem Jessica with memories of better times until, forever
she rests in the dress she'll never wear
Well written, and sadly true for too many.
Cheers
Valda

Author,
This is an excellent statement on the horrors of drug abuse. Drugs ruin many live. You say these things in an elegant poem.
The last line is truly haunting.
Excellent poem.
Best wishes,
Cindy
