I'm so sorry I missed this chapter, Gretchen, I wasn't here much of last week, and I'm trying to catch up. This has been coming for a long time, and I'm wondering if Dewey skipped out during the night and clobbered his dad! I'd give his a medal if it was him. I really need the next chapter, my friend. Now! I love this story, my friend. Well done. Love and hugs, Sandra xxx

Awe, thank you, Sandra. Next chapter may happen today. I will be posting my part of Detour this morning. Have had grandchildren since Friday. Can't plan a danged thing. Lol. I really appreciate this encouraging review and of course, the sixth star. Gretchen

Gretchen,
This is such a sad story about emotional and physical abuse. Dewey lives a stifling life. Did he finally pop Matthew?
Excellent story.
I find myself hoping Dewey breaks away, and becomes a novelist or an orchestra leader or something. Does he have a good way out?
Best wishes,
Cindy

OK Gretchen,
you're the reason I can never skip over posts, even if they're older because I'm so far behind in my reviewing. This is getting really, really exciting. I'm all for Dewey confronting his dad. The guy is a real piece of work and needs to be set in his place. I'm not sure who has given him a bit of his own medicine, but it appears that the law of sowing and reaping is coming in to effect. Another great chapter gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

This is so suspenseful, Gretchen. I love how you're building the tension, especially between Dewey and his father. The feeling in the air is palpable. And now you've added a new wrinkle as Daddy comes home all beat up. Who could have done that and why?

Have you got everything figured out already, or is the story still evolving in your mind? This is the sort of engrossing tale that keeps me reading late into the night, even when I'm tired. I wish I had the whole novel in front of me. - Jim

Thank you, Jim. I would imagine it's only going to get worse. I wrote this one about 3 years ago. Just debating whether or not to post. But, normally, I'm just the person running behind the characters, jotting it all down. Lol. Thanks very much for this awesome review and the extra star. Gretchen

I was wondering why this in the Horror and Thriller category and I guess I will soon find out. I really like how you get the emotional tension through the eyes of the younger brother who is already burdened with caring for his mother and brother and holding on to his mother's deep secrets.

I wish they had a category called "dark". This isn't really a horror story but it didn't fit anything else. Lol. Thank you for sticking with me. Gretchen

That is one mean man and who or what give him a good beating knows it in my opinion. He needs a good beating for mistreating his family. I'm excited to see what happens and find out what happened to the dad. Great writing.

Dewey is speaking the truth when he says his dad is good for nothing. His step-dad is threatening Dewey but he seems to be avoiding the confrontation. That night it appears someone else has had a problem with the horrible man.

I think dad enjoyed flexing. He likes cheap shots and winning over weaker folks. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Something tells me that their dad did something mean and someone meaner than him copped it, abusive men traditionally don't live long, I know they run into someone who they can't be mean to, poor momma, beautifully written Gretchen, blessings Roy
Typo : Dewey and daddy (to) sit.

Thank you, Roy. Sometimes the bully runs into someone who wants to protect their loved ones and there is no stopping that type of person. Thank you fir this. Gretchen

Wow. Dewey finally did it! I think he attacked his dad and wounded him badly.

I can't wait to read the next chapter. Matthew is such a horrible father and human being. I hope he dies.

Well done!

Dewey isn't the culprit. But he's going to be happy when he finds his daddy all scratched up. Thank you for this. Gretchen
