How can I not offer six stars? This is our world... We are in a dark place and the human race seems cleaved in half -- on half looking to the left for guidance and light, the other half looking to the right.

Perhaps it's time we look UP. Only God can save us from our sins!

To fill you in on this one, I teach Bible classes in my local church and I've taught Jeremiah a few times and this verse has always stayed with me. How can we possibly deal with the most difficult of times when we have trouble dealing with normal times. It's because we lack faith and believe that we are right all the time. I found out long ago, we are not right all the time. This verse is often applied to prophecy but it was the Lord speaking to Jeremiah about how Israel was having trouble with the regular stuff and he asked Jeremiah how they were going to deal with the hard stuff.
Thank you so much for the six stars. I truly appreciate your support.

So true! Remembering the Balm in Gilead will bring us His peace. Even in strife and wars, we have the "peace that transcends all understanding". Your well done Cube16 poem brought Psalm 46 to mind.

    Thank you, Helen.
The Balm of Gilead is referred to as healing in Jeremiah and certainly as a description of Christ. I have that in the middle of the poem to remind those believers where we are. Thank you for the positive comments about style too.

I know the hymn. I remember in grade school our music teacher tried to teach us that song. It had such odd vocabulary and a dirge-like melody so we didn't comply well enough. She said we sounded like a bunch of "sin-sick souls." 😂

I can't help but apply the descriptive words of your poem with the global events happening everywhere every day.
I wake up almost daily wondering what havoc has occurred worldwide during the night.
It's getting pretty scary out there in many areas... wars, disasters, political situations, personal tragedies... it's never ending these days.

Thank you for your read and meaningful comments. We are experiencing unsettling times in this world. It certainly seems to be unending. The Balm of Gilead refers to a time of healing in the OT and NT of the Bible.

Hello Robert,
tough times are on us for sure. Some more than others, so those of us who have been spared need to remember those whose need is so much greater. God will do whatever it takes to get our attention it seems. I wish everyone would heed the warnings and draw near to Him. Thanks for sharing this.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

I appreciate your positive comments. The level of unbelief in the world is discouraging most days. We life in a world of no absolute truth anymore. I'm writing about that now. I have had some stuff in newspapers about it. I am working on a poem.

What an excellent poem to remind us of the Balm in Gilead. The difficulties of our days would leave us feeling hopeless without that reality. Your poem shows the situation of our days, but points to the One who is over all.

You've always been able to surmise the surface clutter and negotiate a wondering path of true, hidden meaning deeply beneath. Thanks for sharing. Wish I had a six.

I appreciate your read and positive words. It's that Hillbilly curiosity that forces me to think and write this way. I can't help myself. Big words make me dizzy. 😁

I'm with you. I've never seen the reason for big words when little ones will do. And besides, old country boys like me had friends who wouldn't have known what they meant, and knew I didn't either. :-)

You have the right idea Ric. Orwell has "Rules for writing with clarity." Rule 2 is "Never use a big word when a small one will do." I keep his six rules on my desk.

Regardless of where you look these days, the world is upside down in chaos, yet as the pot bubbles and threatens to blow off it's lid, most do not heed nor listen. There can only be one true peace and we shall find it in His arms.

In this poem, the Balm of Gilead is the hope of healing. Your perception of the world is unfortunately all too accurate in these days.

A deep and abiding sense of angst pervades the stanzas of this excellent poem- an angst that will not dissipate as the signs of the times suggest - sentiments to ponder

A lovely, well-crafted verse that vividly portrays a time of fear and danger - today - and a need for God's support and guidance. Listening and watching all that's going on in the world, it's hard to imagine that the lid can withstand much longer the pressure and heat building up. Thank you so much, Robert, for sharing your excellent verse. Debbie
