This is really good Debbie. No 6's yet, but worthy of one. You have opened up and shared all that you've dealt with and are dealing with so honestly; not something most people can do. It's a difficult read because of the vivid emotional images your words create. Having said that, by sharing these, you are allowing us readers to have a better understanding the different sides of you. You're also helping those who suffer from depression, and other mental diseases, as well as physical disabilities, realize that life isn't all bad, and they can get help. That's where the positive side of your poem comes in. It's almost as though you've 'cleansed your mind' of the hurtful part of your life, so you could then embrace the positive. I'm not sure what I just said makes sense, but I hope you know what I mean and that I'm saying it in a good way. xxx deb

This is a great releasing work. Sharing difficult times and disease is difficult, but I think it helps us gain strength as well.
Great written work. Overall lovely read which showcases your courage to keep going.
Thanks for sharing.

Edit check:
"Let me tell you this is too" // This line doesn't seem to make sense to me, missed word?

Yes, I did fix that. Thanks so much for pointing it out. I have the worst time proofing my own work. Hugs! Debbie

You paint a bitter picture of aging and learning to accept what life throws at us in our old age. Your rhyme scheme is very good and the cadence of the poem was as well. there were only a few rough spots but for the most part it was grand.

Yes, it is a bit bitter as I am 49 and having the problems of an 80 year old. Hope it didn't come off too strong because I do truly have much to be thankful for~Debbie

Once, many years ago - in referring my life I stated that if I did not laugh, I would certainly be crying.
Reading this poem easily reminded me of that day.
Thanks for sharing this. JW

You are so strong, I admire you. When I was going through weekly chemo treatments, one day I was down. I just felt awful and I didn't know if I could make another hour let alone another day. I looked at my oncologist with tears in my eyes and said, "I can't do this." He took my hand and said, "You need to cowboy up, if you're going to make it through." To be honest I became furious with him. Now, I am glad he didn't give into my pitty party.

Life is grand, yes it is. Life is an open oppurtunity for everyone to take advantage. Making one's own life is such a big responsibility to make it works the best.
I like the simplicity of the language used in conveying this beautiful thought. It stimulate one's thinking and to every ones benefit. Thank you for sharing.

Very nice poem. I love the rhyming. I feel your message. Health tends to go south as we get older, which is very hard to accept. Excellent job with your poem.

They say the body is the temple of the soul and when it deteriorates all we can do is detach our minds and our souls. What have we left, fading memories. Can we really grow old gracefully? Maybe if we fight back the shadow death we will see a light on the end of the tunnel. Is life really a long day's journey into light? Whatever the case, it is a long, lonely road without someone walking in our shoes.I like your final couplet. Keep well. -Ekim777
