An intriguing poem! I enjoyed reading this lovely little poem but the last line caught me off guard at first. I read your author's note and thought about its meaning and realized how true your words are: music of someone else's past fills our souls today. Such a profound thought! I also enjoy the line "a song to fill life" because life would be dull without music and everyone deserves a good song. Overall, a thought provoking and engaging poem. Thanks for sharing!

This is a very good 20 word poem. It gives a very strong message and you have used the limited word count well. I love the artwork that you have chosen, very appropriate. Good luck in the competition. Cheers. Jen.

Both music and poetry can renew the soul..and together in a song it can change our way of looking at life and bring a lot of joy. When I think about all the music from my youth, it brings back many great memories. Thanks for sharing.

HELLO ANNIEDAWN: I like your posting here in that it is brief, clear and to the point. With just four lines, a few words, and a witty illustration you let your reader hear the music in your posting here. I've imagined that the girl is playing and singing an old-fashioned love song. I can hear it. This is good Annie. And so are you. God bless. Cordially: rhonnie69.

This poem is very lovely and moving, conveying a tribute to music
and its power to tie the times together and bring joy. According to
howmanysyllables.com, you have 21 syllables. I thought so even before I checked
it. I don't like giving a 3, but the prompt says 20 syllables.

I went back over the poem again, checking each word with Webster's and found what you were referring to. Thank you for pointing out my mistake. I am not one to try to enter something that does not fit the rules and will make a correction.Thank you for your insight.

A very well-written twenty syllable poem about the wonderful talent to write songs and music to tell stories of love of long ago, where the mind is mesmerized by the melodies.

Yes, a lot of the best music lyrics make reference to times past, whether recent past (at the time of writing) or long ago. Also, because many people have nostalgia for the songs heard in their youth, anything written in comparable style will have a degree of appeal if it is done with sincerity and similar presentation. To much current music is formulaic and thus shallow in both lyrics and music -- partly because education is failing in its presumed purpose, which affects lyricists, composers, and performers (both vocal and instrumental). Well done, and aptly illustrated.

I one hundred percent agree with the sentiments you've expressed in your 20 syllable poem! Terrific pairing of picture and poem, and I love how a particular song or piece of music can bring back a time and place, and even better if one can write their own song.
Best wishes for the contest with this gem of an entry, AnnieDawn!
Hugs,
Connie
