Hello mystery writer. The ring is a sign of the commitment. As I heard it described in legalese, "a gift given in contemplation of marriage." It sounds clinical sterile in that context. The ring is the first step of solidifying a future life. Good luck in the contest.

Now that is romantic! Do many men still propose on bended knee? Neither of my husbands did. In fact number two just TOLD me he was going to marry me. AND, I'm glad he was right on that one. Wishing you well in the contest.

Susan, I didn't of the first one, lasted 10 years I did on the second going strong after 36. I think the knees helped!

I guess that receiving the ring from the wrong one would have a shocking and I don't know what to say effect also. It wouldn't be the pleasant one displayed here though. I like this sentimental, inspirational, and well written work. Well done!
