This is truly awesome & I bow down in holy reverence, at your ability to keep up this intricate rhythm & rhyme for SUCH a long poem, while also not having any of it sound contrived (to fit rhythm & rhyme), but rather it all sounds perfectly thought-out for the sake of the story. Truly impressive! I love your comment about Poe being a genius! *smile*

BG, thanks so much for the six stars and the enthusiastic review.

Yes, it took a while to get into the 'Poe Flow', but now I have triple rhymes running around in my head!

I love these contests that have the author creating and crafting from the images that are provided - they invoke such varying degrees of imagination. I have entered this contest as well and I am compelled to say that this is absolutely superb! Given the nod to Edgar Allen Poe notwithstanding, the ebb and flow of your rendition reads like a tour de force of story bordering on epic. I surely was on this journey with the beleaguered soul held captive by the now fabled Juliet. If I were judging, you surely would have first place - and I still love my own entry. Good fortune.

Till the last amen.

Thank you so much for the kind words and the six shiny stars.

These site contests are notoriously difficult to win and you are right - this particular one has spawned some wonderful entries.

Good luck to you as well!

Oh yes, this is very Edgar Allen Poe. What a good story you have told in rhyme. I think you may have a winner here. I was expecting doom and gloom as I had read your author notes, but the end still came as a shock. Very well done and an excellent read. Good luck in the contest.

Dorothy, thanks heaps for the review and the six stars - plenty of tough competition in this contest and I'm wondering now if I should have held this off for the 'Story in a Poem' at the end of the month.

Very original, ravenous (raven-rhythm ) take on the painting as a murder poem . Thematically, you also add Annabelle Lee ( lost at sea), The Telltale Heart ( haunted by guilt) and The Bells ( police sirens). If I had a six, this would get it on craftsmanship.

Thanks for the kind words and virtual six.

I fancy myself as somewhat of an expert imitator, but I have to admit the intricate rhyme and repetition of Poe had me stumped for some time and his poem is much longer than mine. You are obviously a Poe fan...

Wow,Poe was a genius so are you to have penned this lengthy poem. I stumbled in a couple of spots but actually it is brilliant and I enjoyed the rhyme and the rhythm of the poem.
I think it is worthy of a six. Good luck in the contest. Nancy

Lovie, that is excellent! The poetry timing style is wonderful and although I've not read any of Poe's for thirty something years, I most certainly will when I've finished this review. The poem content was sensational and I couldn't pick fault and nor would I. My very best of luck for the comp: you're a wonderful writer. Yay, Southern Hemisphere winner, I think you might have another one. Sheryn :-)

Thanks, Sheryn - I appreciate the six stars and the southern hemisphere cheerleading! Do you know we have only 10% of the world's population down here, so we have to try ten times as hard!

As for winning one of these tough $100 contests, I won't be holding my breath...

I don't think I've ever dealt an easier six, Steve.
I don't know how you did it, but you done it.
I've been avoiding these entries because the image
really disturbs me. But this is beyond the pale (sorry).
This is at once funny and tragic. Parody, yet original.
And the wordslinging? Masterful.
Wish I had a vote, Steve.

Peace, Lee

Lee, you're right about the picture and it's popped up so many times now, it's likely to be giving all of us unpleasant dreams....

Thanks for the words and the six!
