One of my favorite musicals of all time, love the music. Your words clearly describe the movie and your use of words make the movie recognizable in your poem.

Well done and very clever with your last line, which transports me to a mountain top and Maria singing "The Hills are Alive.."
This is an excellent take on the movie and an excellent Haiku.

A beautiful and accurate description of a popular movie. I love "The Sound of Music" and identified this before I read your note at the bottom. Very well done.

This haiku movie review, A Way Out of Austria, uses this brief format and seems to remind me of a time when the hills were alive with the sound of music.

Congratulations on winning the movie haiku competition. You certainly said it all in just seventeen syllables and chose the perfect artwork. Best wishes. Jen.

Delightful. It actually made me giggle. You have pretty much summed up the entire movie in three lines. I hated every frame of it BTB. Sorry. Having said that, Julie Andrews is an absolute hero. Just not nunning around in Austria - DJ

Hi DJ. Thank you for your excellent review, the five stars and your honesty. That being said... who doesn't like "The Sound of Music?" You don't, that's who! I won't ask why; I guess you just don't like sunshiny, flowery, sugary musicals.
I'll bet... you didn't like Mary Poppins, either! And please excuse my ignorance, but what does "BTB" stand for? I tried googling it, and came up empty.
Last question: why is Julie Andrews a hero, if you don't like her running around the hills of Austria? I hope you don't mind being asked so many questions.
Now, if you don't mind one last thing, may God bless you, my friend, and give you a safe and Happy New Year. - Mary Kay

BTB means by the by 😎. I actually love Mary Poppins - go figure. Not so sugary. I actually played Baron Von Trapp years ago and was careful not to eat before each performance. I couldn't wait to head off over the mountains. Julie Andrews directed a good number of my actor friends in an Australian production of MY FAIR LADY in August of last year, She was a mere 84 years of age at the time and was by all reports a fantastic person and as sharp as the proverbial tack. That to me is a hero. Blessings for the coming year - DJ

Thank you DJ for your gracious answers... yes, that's what it said when I looked up btb, "by the by," but it didn't make sense to me; I guess I'm just unfamiliar with the expression. So you like Mary Poppins! And Julie Andrews was as sharp as a tack, at age 84 -- that is excellent.
You played Baron von Trapp? Well he wasn't all that sugary, but the others were, so I guess that's why you had to watch your diet ;-)
    Thank you, my friend!

Recognised the photo straight away. One of the best musicals ever made, an ever Green. I wish you well in the writing prompt. Three lines brought back a beautiful voice (never to sing again) all the happy, skipping children who were too escape Austria. Happy Christmas you three!

Hello again, Kay! I'm glad you enjoyed my poem, and that it brought back memories of this wonderful musical. What is an "ever Green" musical? Maybe you mean, a timeless classic, for indeed, it is. And yes, I heard the same thing, that Julie Andrew's lost her singing voice, at some point... how sad that is! She was amazing! Perhaps it was from overuse?
There are only two of us in our home -- I do have a Mom, who I am very grateful for, but I don't live with her these days. I miss her very much, but we talk on the phone, daily. She has a 24-hour aide. I can't really stay there a lot, because of the virus and other limitations; the apartment isn't big enough and I wouldn't be able to bring my husband.
I hope you had a good Christmas and that you will have a safe and Happy New Year. May God bless you, my friend. Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Happy New Year Mary Kay. Yes, ever green means timeless classic. And Julie Andrews was having an operation on her vocal chords and the surgeon slipped up. There was a huge mal-practice suit apparently. Glad your mum is being looked after. Our drought has broken and we had a wet Christmas, wonderful. Take care Mrs. Pizza XX Kay.

Hello Kay! I never knew the part about Julie Andrews' surgery -- very tragic. I'm glad the Christmas rain broke the drought down there. We also had a wet Christmas, but no drought to break; yet thankful for all our blessings. We had takeout from a pizzeria for New Year's dinner, but it wasn't pizza! I had eggplant parmigiana, my favorite, and Jorge had spaghetti and meatballs. There's no dining in restaurants, in NYC. We had modified indoor dining for a time, but they had to ban it again; too much virus spreading.
Yes, Mom has a good home attendant right now -- just praying that her resources will last (it's expensive) and for a miracle.
I hope that you're doing well, my Aussie friend! May God bless you and keep you safe and well throughout 2021. A very Happy New Year to you!
    Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Hello Mary Kay,
This is a lovely summation of the beautiful movie, "The sound of music." Julie Andrews was an awesome actress in this movie. Your three lines really shares the story of this great movie with the governess. I love the characters and all the beautiful singing. Good luck in the contest. Well done. You aced it.
